COURSES AT WHEATSHEAF
Attending a course is one way to help improve employment prospects
Some of the courses we run are:
- JobCentre Support Contracts: various courses aim to enhance job finding and vocational skills - Finding and Getting a Job, Doing Effective Job Search, Food Safety, Health and Safety, Realistic Jobs for me, Job Search Module (Newly Redundant), Skills for Work, First Aid, Job Search Support Centre, Launch Pad.
- Basic IT skills: we provide training at all four centres through Southampton City College, Highbury College, and St Vincent College.
- Pre-Employment Training: focusing on enhancing skills for a particular job or sector, a recent course concentrated on supporting people interested in working in the Care sector. Wheatsheaf has recently also run courses linked to new store openings by IKEA and The Range in Southampton. In the future we are planning further courses with Tesco, First Bus and security companies.

WHEATSHEAF’S IN-HOUSE CONSTRUCTION SKILLS WORKSHOP
The construction skills workshop at Wheatsheaf House is staffed by three experienced supervisors and who provide training in the basic construction industry skills of carpentry, brick-laying, painting and decorating, and in construction site safety.
Activities can also include
- Numeracy and literacy skills training
- Soft skills training - employability, team-building and confidence skills
- IT skills training
Wheatsheaf Trust’s Construction Workshop facilities are available for
- Referral agencies and organisations wanting to run projects over a period or for groups to attend one-off taster sessions
- Schools and colleges for pupils/students: taster days can be arranged or multi-session courses either to support vocational GCSEs and other qualifications or to provide a different learning experience for pupils who are disengaged, disruptive or in danger of exclusion
- Organisations wanting team-building sessions
We can also tailor projects for individual organisations.
